Project Management

I have worked with several companies where project management has suffered because of lack of experience, knowledge, people skills or just not addressing small issues thinking they will resolve themselves. This always results in project delays and cost overruns. Issues need to be identified and noted as soon as possible in a project, or they will come back more visible.
I am always amazed with suppliers who are surprised with cost overruns that they have to accept during the course of a project. The best project managers may not have the most detailed product knowledge, or experience, but knew when to bring someone in who did.
Of course people skills are important.
